CCDBC Flaunt their Flannies…. A Great Cause
Flannie Day is an awareness and action day on the issues of homelessness and hunger in Australia. Tragically, the number of Australians experiencing food insecurity and homelessness is increasing. The most recent Foodbank Hunger Report reveals 4 million Aussies experienced food insecurity in the last twelve months.
For the 3rd year Clarence Coast Dragon Boat Club members searched their wardrobes to find and wear a flannelette shirt to the paddling session to show we care and acknowledge that every Australian deserves the dignity of having a safe home to go to and enough food to eat.
Paddlers also donated non-perishable food to assist those at risk and experiencing homelessness. The donated non-perishable food was then taken to Wellspring Christian Church, Yamba. Wellspring Community Care support those in need with access to groceries at reduced prices as well as providing access to emergency food parcels for those in need.
As winter comes to an end and spring approaches, our beautiful Clarence River is the perfect setting for challenging yourself to improve your fitness and strength and meet new friends. The club meets at the Yamba Moby Dick Boat Ramp on Saturday at 7.30am and Hickey Island on Wednesday at 2.30pm for an hour of paddling. We have coaches and experienced paddlers willing to offer advice and support. Come and give it a try! You will be warmly welcomed. Contact President Ree Dunn 0407436891
