What a great turn out for the Australia Day celebration paddle with Grafton Club and as reported to me an excellent time was had by all. I am sure everyone is looking forward to another get together.
We have had a great start to 2017 with new paddlers turning up to try out. Each training session we have a full boat or over full. Training sessions on a Saturday will now be 7am for 7.30am on the water. This way it is guaranteed everyone who has registered their name for the session will have a chance to train. If there is more than a boat load some members will be asked to sit out and paddle the next session and vice versa. It is wonderful to see so many keen people turn up. It isn’t that long ago that we struggled to get enough paddlers to hold a training session. The first regatta for the year has been put on our regatta page on the website. It will be at Urunga on the 7th May. We will be able to enter a sports women’s team as well as a mixed team and the way we are going with recruitment a men’s team isn’t too far down the track – maybe next year. Get your name down, as this is a great regatta and for those of you who haven’t yet attended, this is one I know you will enjoy. Don’t forget if you are intending to go down on Saturday you will need to book accommodation early as there aren’t a lot of options in Urunga. We have 2 members who have registered to do the coaching course at Laurieton. Lin and Irene will be our trainee coaches after they complete their 2 day training. It will be great to have them as part of the coaching team. Lin, Dot, and Rhonda have completed their Member Protection Officer training which means we now have 4 MPI officers within our club. We are forever grateful to those members who tow our boat for us. Without their help we wouldn’t be able to enjoy our beautiful river while having a great workout. Full attention and help by all crew should be given first priority to launch, return the boat after paddling and wash the boat. 16th February will be our first social luncheon for the year. Chris Logsdon is organising this one and it will be at Ferry Park at 12noon. Let Chris know if you are going to attend as soon as you can. All members’ names will be put in the “hat” for the draw to see who will be organising the next lunch. Hope to see a big role up. Gail
