FLANNIE FUN DAY
At a recent meeting of the Clarence Coast Dragon Boat Club, it was decided that each month the Club would have one week’s paddle session dedicated to a local issue based on events listed on the national calendar.
The initiative has the goal of continuing with a social activity but also doing something which will contribute to our local community and show our support for health and social issues.
August saw members dig deep into their wardrobes to find and wear a flannelette shirt to the paddling session to support Flannie Day Food Drive.
Paddlers also donated non-perishable food to raise awareness about homelessness and provide practical support for the hungry in our community. The donated non-perishable food was then taken to Wellspring Christian Church, Yamba. Wellspring Community Care support those in need with access to groceries at reduced prices as well as providing access to emergency food parcels for those in need.
As winter comes to an end and spring approaches, our beautiful Clarence River is the perfect setting for challenging yourself to improve your fitness and strength and meet new friends.
The club meets at the Yamba Boat Ramp on Wednesday 2.30pm and Saturday 7.30am for an hour of paddling. We have coaches and experienced paddlers willing to offer advice and support. Come and give it a try! You will be warmly welcomed.
