Clarence Coast DBC travel to Urunga
Last weekend saw the Annual Kalang River Dragon Boat Club Regatta. Despite fears of cancellation due to poor weather, there was very little rain, and the conditions were near perfect. Sixteen Dragon Boat Clubs from Ballina and down to the Hunter River and beyond came along to compete over two days of racing. Saturday saw the 100m dash heats and the 7.5 km races. Clarence Coast combined with Grafton for the 7.5km race and finished in 45 minutes after a nail-biting head-to-head race for the last 2km to the finish line. Sunday was the day of the 200m sprints with combination of men’s, women’s, and mixed crews of ten and twenty paddlers. There were thirty-six heats over the whole day, because of the rain there were no finals, but places were awarded according to the times recorded in the heats. The Clarence Coast Dragon Boat Club did themselves proud with a couple of near wins in their heats. No overall bling this time around but watch out – we are creeping up the leader board!
